The Expendables
Movie: The Expendables
Main Actors: Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li and Jason Statham
MPAA Rating: R
Passionate Expressions: There are some, but not quite as many as you might think
Useless Vulgar Language: Just about as much of this as you would expect including one vulgar scene with Bruce Willis that was very very forced.
Sex in a Good Light: Sex wasn’t really a part of this movie
Sex in a Bad Light: The little that was in there was the kind of sexuality you would find in a rough bar, but it was fleeting and I was thankful for that.
Manly Violence: Stupendous, awesome and overflowing with it.
Action Violence: None
Pointless Violence: None
Manly Rating: A+
Scorecard
Cinematography: B
Visual Effects: A
Sound/Score: C
Story: A
Acting: A-
Food to Watch With: Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and other Miscellaneous Manly Munchies.
Plot Synopsis: Tough guys do some pro-bono work for a small island by blowing half of it up.
Review: Great movie that many people didn’t understand. As with most of Stallone’s movies, the point isn’t what they did or how they did it or how unbelievably cool they looked while doing it. It's who they were during the less intense scenes, how they behaved around each other and how they viewed themselves. The fights and the explosions and all that are just end results of who they are. Watch for the unspoken words and the mannerisms of the characters, they tell you a great deal about what Sly was trying to do and in my opinion he succeeded.
Life Lessons: If your last name is Stallone, odds are that you will not age well; but you will have massive amounts of C-4 at your disposal.
Summary: Great movie with strong but hidden undertones.
Would I Watch This Again: Heck yeah.
